The San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 3 at 4:05 PM Eastern Time, 1:05 PM Pacific Time.  Seattle enters the game having lost their last two and are 1-2 on the season. The 49ers fell to the Packers on a last-second field goal Mason Crosby in week three and are 2-1 on the season.

Seattle is led by quarterback Russell Wilson, who has completed 73 percent of his passes for 895 yards and seven touchdowns.  He threw for 280 yards and averaged 9.3 yards per attempt in last week’s loss to the Vikings.  Wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have torched secondaries for 32 catches, 529 yards and five touchdowns. On the ground, Chris Carson has 202 yards and three touchdowns, averaging nearly five yards per carry.  Defensively, the Seahawks have seven sacks and two forced fumbles, but have not yet intercepted a pass. They have allowed over 30 points in each of the last two games. A concerning stat for the Seahawks is that the Vikings won the time of possession battle by 10 minutes even without Dalvin Cook in the lineup.

The 49ers issues go far beyond the fact that the defense couldn’t stop the Packers from driving into field goal territory with 37 seconds left and no time outs. The ground game was bad last week, gaining just 67 yards, which was their lowest total in their last nine regular season games.

For the 49ers, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has completed 67 percent for 760 yards and four touchdowns for the season. His favorite target has been Deebo Samuel, who has 20 receptions for 334 yards. Tight end Geroge Kittle has been a reliable option, hauling in 15 balls for 189 yards. However, against the Packers, Garoppolo averaged a mere 6.4 yards per attempt and turned the ball over twice.  Without running back Raheem Mostert, Elijah Mitchell has carried the load, gaining 146 yards on 36 carries. Defensively, the 49ers remain one of the toughest units in the game, despite allowing 30 points to the Packers last week.

Keep an eye on the 49ers offensive line versus a Seattle defense that has been poor against the rush. Case in point was last week’s dominating performance from Alexander Mattison. Therefore, don’t be surprised to see the 49ers to try to rely heavily on the run in this game.

On the flip side, the Seahawks will likely try to exploit a banged-up 49ers’ secondary that allowed the two deep balls in the middle of the field to Davane Adams on the game-winning drive by the Packers last week. It could be a long day for the 49ers trying to contain Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.

The 49ers are a 3-point home favorite with an over/under of 52.
