Friday night hoops with the NFL divisional round looming. Let’s get a winner as we start the weekend! The Charlotte Hornets (25-20) have gotten hot recently, winning 6 of their last 7 games against tough opponents. They face the OKC Thunder (14-30) who come to town off three straight losses. Tip-off @ the Spectrum Center is at 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT.

These two teams are meeting for the first time this regular season. They played a preseason game with the Hornets winning 113-97, but not much can be taken from preseason action. Both teams have fared VERY well against the spread this year with the Thunder going 28-15-1 and the Hornets being 28-17. The Over/Under in Thunder games has gone 18-26, while it is 23-21-1 in Hornets games thus far. We look to take advantage of a hot team going against a sub-par opponent. While this has potential to be a blowout victory for the Hornets, we see the value in the point total for this game.

Let’s take a look at why this matchup will be a high-scoring affair. First off, the Hornets rank 2nd in the NBA in total scoring, averaging 114.4PPG on the offensive end. The Hornets feature players averaging over 16.0PPG, meaning their points can come in bunches and from anywhere. While they can be prolific on offense led by Lamelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and company, their defense has been lackluster. They are ranked 29th out of 30 teams in opponent PPG, allowing 114.6PPG. Although the Thunder don’t have a lineup full of all-stars, we look to see Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey having a higher scoring night to try and keep pace with Charlotte. The Thunder tend to score more against Eastern Conference opponents, with the Over going 3-0 in their past 3 Eastern Conference games.

With the Thunder allowing 116PPG over the last 5 games, we can bank on Charlotte getting to at least that number as the second highest scoring team in the NBA. The Thunder team total would then need to be around 106 points for us to cash in. We have confidence in this number hitting. Look for both teams to play up and down with lots of easy buckets early in the shot clock. The line is moving with the Over which means money agrees with us. Get this in as soon as you can.

Take the OVER 221.5. (article written this morning, line is now 223.5) Cheers!
