Mariners vs White Sox

In first game of the series last night, White Sox led 4-0 headed into bottom of 8th inning but they let Mariners score 4 in the 8tht to tie it and Cal Raleigh hit a walk off grand slam in the 9th to open series with a 8-4 win. M’s have won 4 of last 5 matchups. In game 2 we get a great young pitching matchup with Drew Thorpe making his MLB debut for Chicago and Bryan Woo taking the mound for Seattle.

White Sox are an MLB worst 17-50 and it gets even worse on the road going just 5-27 including 1-11 their last 12 and are last scoring just 3 runs per game in road games. Mariners are now 8-1 their last 9 home games and have been great at home all year going 22-11 as they lead MLB allowing just 2.9 runs per game at home.

Pitching Matchup:

Drew Thorpe has had quite the year, he was drafted by the Yankees in 2022 but traded in the offseason to San Diego in the Juan Soto deal only to be packaged to Chicago in the Dylan Cease trade. Despite all the moving around he will be making his MLB debut after very impressive numbers in the minors going 7-1 1.35 ERA across 11 starts but the catch is… that was all in Double A. He has not thrown a pitch in Triple A as he takes the mound for his first MLB start.

Bryan Woo has been nothing short of remarkable this season, the Mariners have won all 6 starts of the 2nd year pitcher so far on the 2024 campaign as he went 3-0 1.07 ERA and he has been even better at home going 1-0 0.57 ERA across 3 starts holding teams to a .137 BAV.

Free Prediction: Mariners -1.5 (-102)

Win or lose, this bet is a no-brainer. We are going against the worst road team in baseball with a Seattle team who allows the least amount of runs at home in MLB.

Thorpe has a lot of long-term potential and could come with a great start but, the fact he is making the jump from Double-A to his MLB debut is putting the young stud in a path difficult to succeed in typical White Sox fashion.
