Thursday night in the NBA has our focus shifted to the Brooklyn Nets as they visit the Phoenix Suns. With the Nets favored by 1-point and the O/U at 223 we look to player prop value. Check out Nets star Kyrie Irving. His lines are O/U 29.5 points, O/U 4.5 rebounds, and O/U 5.5 assists. While he will be the main scoring threat without Kevin Durant on the floor, the Phoenix defense will likely force the ball out of his hands. They will allow anyone to beat them besides Irving tonight. He’s also been dealing with a sore calf, so minutes could be restricted. If the game has a big lead in either direction, Irving could easily sit out early for precaution. The Suns defend the point guard position quite well, allowing less than 24 PPG to opposing point guards. In Irving’s last 10 games, he’s only scored 30+ points ONE time and has put up just 24 and 15 points in two games since Durant went down with an MCL sprain. To trend his stats further without his former MVP teammate we look to the 12 games from last season. Irving averaged 26.9 points and thus we feel that oddsmakers have tonight’s line falsely inflated with increased opportunity. While he will get shots up, he’s simply more efficient with KD on the court spreading the floor. The Suns have also really struggled scoring with Booker and CP3 sidelined. Tonight should be a slower paced, lower-scoring affair as seen by the total points line. Expect both teams to force tough shots and Kyrie to face double teams off the pick & roll.
